For Corrie and I it has been a wonderful privilege to be called by God and to serve as pioneers establishing a Church in Letterkenny. We received a very clear call to work in Co. Donegal in the year 1970. One night when I was in prayer for the area the Lord showed me a house in north Donegal in a vision. I felt the power of the Holy Spirit flowing over me and knew that God wanted me to move to this house to begin the work of church planting and evangelism in the North West. This became a house of prayer and others came to join us and share in the vision. We prayed much and needed great patience. It was a considerable time before the first people came to know the Lord in a personal way. Our Background I was brought up in a R.C. home, Corrie is from Holland and comes from a well-known missionary family. We were both several years in Bible College, where we received a excellent training not only in knowing the Bible, but also in how to trust God and develop the ability to persist in prayer and receive guidance from the Lord for important decisions. This proved to be of immense value in the following years. We worked over a wide area in the Northwest and saw people turning to Christ in various towns, which resulted in the start of house-groups and churches. LCF is born The Lord laid it on our hearts the need to develop a church in Letterkenny, so we started in 1992 . We began the church with a group of young people, including our own teenage children. Those were very exciting days! The services were lively with beautiful music and singing and people sharing about the wonderful things God had done in their lives! We were able to provide them with a good biblical foundation for their new-found faith. Some were healed from depression, some freed of alcohol dependence. The young people were full of enthusiasm and the power of the Holy Spirit, and it was not long before they were telling others about the real change God had made in their lives. As more people came to know the Lord, our meetings grew. People were travelling in from other towns to meet with us in Letterkenny. We felt the presence of God dwelling with us in an exciting way! God’s Work Today We have seen many wonderful answers to prayer over the years. God has healed several people as we prayed for them. A young man with a damaged kidney, having suffered many years of agonizing pain, was healed after prayer. The necessity of having his kidney removed by surgery was cancelled. A baby that was seriously ill and was thought not to make it through the night was healed after prayer. Others received a job or a home after the special days of prayer. There have been countless other answers to prayer and we praise God for all of them. These are wonderful days and God continues to encourage us. God has been very real to us and is a true Friend and Father to all who truly seek Him and follow Him! |
